Haihao Liu
Hi everyone, my name is Haihao (he/they), pronounced (and can be remembered) as “Hi, how (are you)”! After growing up in equal parts mainland China, the US, and Hong Kong, I attended Rice University as a Trustee Distinguished Scholar and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 2018 with dual degrees, a BS in Materials Science and NanoEngineering and a BA in Mathematics. I worked from 2019 to 2022 as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and PhD Candidate at MIT, researching machine learning for making new materials, (L)LMs (before they were “large”), and embedding domain knowledge explicitly into the ML model architecture itself. I have also worked and volunteered as a teacher with various organizations, and I am passionate about education equity and reform. I am pursuing a Master of Education in Learning Design, Innovation, and Technology at Harvard (on hiatus). I currently serve as the Education Director for Asian Community Development Center, a growing US-based nonprofit with a mission to empower the Asian American community. Since 2023, I have been getting involved with AI safety and responsible tech, including facilitating for BlueDot Impact’s and AI Safety Collab’s Alignment courses, as well as participating in AI Safety Global Society’s Alignment Research Fellowship and the Cooperative AI course run by AI Safety Asia. I write and share content about combatting AI hype and ethical AI use on LinkedIn. My nonprofit/startup Ternity Education aims to combine the bleeding edge of AI (including knowledge graphs and multi-agent IL+RL) with our modern understanding of neuroscience and learning sciences, to ultimately transform how students learn in this century and beyond! We recently received $15,000 USD in compute funding to pursue this work. https://tinyurl.com/AI71TernityAI Feel free to connect with me! https://www.linkedin.com/in/haihaoliu https://linktr.ee/hhliu
